Scaling Impact: My New Chapter with the Innovation and Economic Development Foundation

I am stepping into the role of Africa Head of Technology at the IEDF to align digital strategy with the lived realities of our entrepreneurs and informal markets.

I have spent much of my career advocating for digital transformation grounded in the reality of the African entrepreneur. Innovation achieves its true value only when it helps a small business owner manage inventory or a farmer access a better market. With this focus on practical impact, I am honored to share my appointment as the Africa Head of Technology for the Innovation and Economic Development Foundation (IEDF).

The Mission of Practical Technology

The IEDF champions those at the heart of our economy: micro, small and medium enterprises. These businesses are more than financial backbone; they are the primary source of stability for millions. My goal is to ensure our digital strategy moves beyond adopting tools toward creating clear paths to prosperity.

The challenge today is no longer just access, but utility. My priority is leading the development of technology frameworks that solve localized problems. Whether improving supply chain visibility or creating transparent record-keeping for informal traders, every technical decision must ask if it makes it easier for an entrepreneur to succeed.

Inclusive Growth Beyond Tech Hubs

Our continental narrative often focuses on a few high-growth cities. While these hubs are vital, digital benefits must reach beyond them. True development is inclusive by design. We must view the informal economy not as a sector to be replaced, but as a vibrant engine of growth that needs better tools to scale.

We need to move away from top down solutions that ignore ground complexities. By building intuitive, affordable platforms designed for the specific needs of our markets, we can bridge the divide between potential and profit. This requires intentional collaboration between the technology community and everyday business people.

Architects of Our Digital Destiny

A sustainable digital economy cannot rely on imported solutions. We must invest in our people so they have the skills to build and own the technology powering their lives. This is about moving from being consumers to becoming architects of our own future.

The journey ahead is significant, but the opportunity is greater. I look forward to working with governments, private sector partners and the entrepreneurs themselves. Together, we can build a future where technology acts as a genuine catalyst for economic independence and shared prosperity across the continent.
